WikiOpenCite is a research tool designed to retrieve citations of academic research on Wikipedia and identify if those citations are Open Access (OA). This is crucial for readers wishing to verify facts on the world’s largest encyclopedia. It fetches and combines data from a number of sources to generate statistics such as: – What papers has been cited? – Which authors have been cited? – What language editions of Wikipedia have the most OA citations? – Who is adding these citations (users or bots)? This tool will enable researchers, universities, and funders to establish the impact of academic research on Wikipedia and it’s readers.
