Knowledge XChange: Blockchain Powered Academic Data Sharing Platform
Standardised academic research data sharing between institutions remains an unsolved problem. At present, there is no universal standard for transferring data between universities, with researchers commonly resorting to email attachments or physical media. In current solutions, there is often little mechanism for verifying the authenticity of the data’s origin, no immutable record of how the data has been used, and little protection against uncredited reuse by third parties. However, this dissertation proposes a solution using an immutable blockchain ledger that records all data uploads and access, which would solve many of the problems present in academic data sharing.
